Tsvetelina Maldzhanska

The Bulgarian soprano Tsvetelina Maldzhanska is a highly accomplished and experienced singer. She is a fine musician and possesses an attractive and vibrant personality together with an impressive stage presence. She is fluent in Russian, Italian, English and Bulgarian.

At the age of 6 Tsvetelina began studying piano and solfeggio. She graduated as a medical doctor in 1999 at the Medical Academy in Sofia and occasionally practiced as a physician until the year 2000, but remained truly dedicated to systematically developing her vocal technique. During her medical studies she started singing lessons at the Private Musical Academy Sacra with the world famous Bulgarian mezzo soprano Alexandrina Milcheva. In this inspiring environment Tsvetelina quickly gained a remarkably controlled vocal technique and impressive results. She was noticed not only by music critics, but also by the George Soros Open Society Foundation, which awarded her a scholarship and gave her the opportunity to attend the Boris Christoff Musical Academy in Rome. She won her first prizes at the International Competition for Singers Cristo Brambarov in Sofia (jury chaired by Ghena Dimitrova) and the Francesco Paolo Neglia International Competition for Singers in Enna-Italy (jury chaired by Rolando Panerai). She attended the summer course of Prof. Norman Schetler in Essen-Germany, where she gave a recital of Schubert songs to the accompaniment of Prof. Schetler. The same year the Bulgarian National Radio proclaimed Tsvetelina Young Musician of the Year.

In 1998 Ms Maldzhanska received the special prize of the Jury at the International Competition for Singers in Marmande, France. In 2004 she was awarded a scholarship by the Giuseppe di Stefano competition in Trapani, Italy.

Early professional experience.

Ms.Maldzhanska made her stage debut at Rousse State Opera (Bulgaria) as Lucia in Lucia di Lammermoor. Her next appearance was as Gilda (Rigoletto) and Cecília (Il Guarany - Gomes) at the National Opera in Sofia .She also sang a Leila (Les Pêcheurs de Perles ), Musetta (La Boheme), in Italy (Enna) and Violetta (La Traviata) and Mimi (La Boheme) in the National Opera in Sofia.

Further appearances.

In 2005 José Carreras personally selected Ms Maldzhanska as a partner to sing duets with him and solos in his first concert in Bulgaria. In 2006 Andrea Bocelli invited her to perform with him in a gala concert in Sofia. Since then Ms Maldzhanska has performed at the Sofia National Opera House and in major cities in Bulgaria. She has also appeared in several opera houses outside Bulgaria.

Ms Maldzhanska was invited to appear in concerts with North Israeli Symphony Orchestra, the Poznan Philharmonic Orchestra in Poland and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra in Edinburgh and Glasgow and also at the Musikverein in Vienna. She has also performed in Barcelona, Bergan, Dubrovnik, Granada, Helsinki, Madrid and Valencia.

Ms Maldzhanska has recorded operatic arias for the Golden Fund broadcast by Bulgarian National Radio. Ms.Maldzhanska has also released a series of recordings by the American Sound Recording Company MMO, New York.

During the promotion tour recitals with MMO, prior to recordings CDs, the assistant Musical Director of the Los Angeles Opera, William Vendice, discovered her unique talent and proposed an audition with the Artistic Director of the Opera, Placido Domingo. This audition resulted in an invitation to sing the role of Antonia in Offenbach’s Les Contes d’Hoffmann.
